What do kids wear to Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest Costumes for kids are not very common because usually, Oktoberfest is a beer festival which you can imagine is more associated with adult parties. As the name suggests, Oktoberfest is a festival celebrated in October (actually it starts in late September) to celebrate different types of beer. It is a German festival that is more about the festivities than just the beer. It also celebrates German food such as schnitzel or strudel as well as music. You can find some traditional German costumes in Australia that have been designed for children.

You may be hosting an Oktoberfest event at your place, and there may not be very many kids coming, but your children would like to get into the spirit and you can find Oktoberfest clothing in a few different styles. Not all the reasons that people have Oktoberfest parties are to get drunk, as it can be a genuine celebration of genuine German traditions and music. The common traditional German dress for Oktoberfest is lederhosen (long shorts and braces) for males and dirndl (fitted dress and apron) for females.

Oktoberfest Girl Costume Ideas

Your little girl will look adorable in a beautiful, colourful and embroidered Dirndl. The great thing about Oktoberfest kids outfits is that they can be a great choice when you are looking for ideas for Book Week character costumes. This is because, in the English speaking world, we have inherited many of our folk tales from German fables of the Brothers Grimm, such as Hansel and Gretel, or Snow White. Depending on the age of the girl, she may want to try a German beer wench costume as some of them are quite modest and appropriate for a younger teenager.

If your girl gets an Oktoberfest costume it is something that can also be used for Halloween dress-ups and trick or treating. These types of costumes have more use than just during Oktoberfest.

Boys Oktoberfest Outfits

If your son or nephew is going to an Oktoberfest event and wants to look the part as his father or uncles, you can find him boys' *lederhosen.* This involves long embroidered shorts with braces that hold up the shorts, with a chest brace between the two suspenders. The outfit is worn with either a white or plaid shirt and often with a feathered cap. The fairy tale character, Hansel would have worn lederhosen as a young boy in the German forest. With some additional props or accessories, he can be the hunter in Red Riding Hood or the woodchopper in Snow White. These are great ideas for Book Week as well and they have a double life during Oktoberfest and Halloween.

Young teenage boys have a bigger range available to them for traditional German outfits as many of them are in small men's sizes which will fit great and they come complete with hats and shirts to finish the look.
