The Kids Grandpa's Great Escape Costume brings Jack Bunting — the heroic RAF pilot from David Walliams' beloved chapter book — to life for Book Week and literary dress-up events.
Key Features
- Striped scarf designed to stand upright at shoulder for character-accurate styling
Perfect For
Book Week & World Book Day: One of the most recognisable David Walliams characters for primary school literary parades, classroom read-aloud celebrations, or library dress-up days.
Roald Dahl Day & Author Study Events: Same illustrator family (Quentin Blake) and publisher as Roald Dahl — pairs well with themed author weeks or British children's literature units.
Anzac Day Ceremonies & History Projects: The RAF-inspired military jacket and aviator hat make this suitable for school history presentations, wartime-themed assemblies, or respectful commemoration events (though character is comedic, costume reads as dignified vintage pilot).
How to Wear It
Apply the stick-on moustache just above the upper lip. Position the scarf upright at the shoulder for the book-accurate look. Pair with brown dress shoes or black school shoes — the costume works over a white collared shirt if you want extra formality, though the jacket's mock shirt cuffs provide the effect on their own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What size range does this costume cover?
This is sold in child sizes — refer to the size chart image on the product page for chest, waist, and height measurements.
Q3: Is this suitable for school Book Week parades?
Yes — Grandpa's Great Escape is a popular David Walliams title in Australian primary schools. The costume is instantly recognisable to teachers and peers familiar with the book.
Q4: Can I add face paint instead of the stick-on moustache?
Absolutely — draw the moustache with face paint or eyebrow pencil for a more secure look, especially for active events. The adhesive moustache is reusable but may lift during playground wear.
