The great thing about the Grinch costume that you bought for Christmas is that they can literally be worn for any fancy dress costume. If you are on any kind of budget when it comes to buying dress up or fancy dress costumes, buy your costumes carefully. Buy costumes that you can wear again and again, and that your children can also wear, and that you and your husband or boyfriend can swop. Buy lots of dress up accessories as they always come in useful and if you have a couple of coloured wigs, different shape sunglasses, lots of beads, masks, capes, wands, crowns, etc, you can always use them in different ways. And these are the kind of accessories you can share with your kids. Of course they may not want to share with you, if a kid has a favourite mask or crown or cape they might think hey, what is mom doing, but they will laugh! And so if you have a Grinch costume from last year’s Christmas, keep it, because it will definitely be worn again.
Fancy dress bits and bobs
One way of ensuring dress up fun is to look at costumes online and even if you do not buy the fancy dress costumes, buy a whole bunch of accessories. When my kids were little we had a bit basket in their playroom, and it was filled with wigs, hats, sunglasses, wands, swords although some people are opposed to these, capes, jewellery, crowns, and all things that were cheap and cheerful but that lasted. The kids, every time they had play dates, would dig into the basket and really have fun playing make believe games. It is healthy for kids to dress up and imagine and if you have Grinch costumes from last year, we promise the kids will use them!
