Book week costumes - a great way to promote reading for your child

Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) promotes an event for school children called Book Week. Each year there will be a particular theme, and you can find costumes that relate to children's’ literature for youngsters of all ages. We update our range of Book Week character costumes from year to year, however, there will always be particular favourites throughout time, such as Alice from the classic book, Alice in Wonderland as a popular choice for book week costumes for girls, or Willy Wonka is a common choice for book week costumes for boys.

Alice in Wonderland Kids Costumes

Choose from Harry Potter, Mad hatter, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka and many other characters from classic children's books. We also have a great range of book week ideas for girls that come from a rich tradition of fairy tales. Fairy tales such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood are stories that most young children are familiar with.

If your children have seen the DVD or something online, it will be easy to help them with their interest in reading if you can read them the stories, as they will already be familiar. When they dress up at their heroes or heroines from the stories, they will be more motivated to read along with you and learn about the adventures these characters have.

Kids CAPTAIN AMERICA COSTUME

Children have great imaginations and wearing the costumes of their heroes helps them to develop their imaginations, which also helps them in writing their own stories, as well as motivates them to read books where their characters from Book Week feature, as it makes them feel part of the story. As their reading improves, they will want to do it more and more and therefore their reading improves even more. Getting your kids engaged in book character dress up ideas is a big key to improving their reading confidence.
